Optimizing thea for sketchup on mac with m1 processors.

Hi Gargon,

it's probably not at all what you want to hear and I totally get why you are using a Mac. I was a Mac user for the first 15 years of my career.
I did switch to PC six years ago and have never looked back. I built myself an awesome machine, more powerful than anything compared to Mac for a fraction of the cost.
I now have access to a bunch of super useful software inaccessible to Mac users and can upgrade my machine with superior and still cheaper parts sooner than Apple makes them available.

I have zero regrets and my machine is rock-solid.

...just something to consider.

Kindly,

Swissmountain

Congratulations Mr. Swissmountain, now that you have built "a fantastic machine, more powerful than anything else than the Mac".. , we are sure that you will make some fantastic renders that we are all curious to see!
One question: didn’t you improve the Thea Render software" for mac before?
I greet you phenomenon!!!

Hi @gogiannigo,

my last Mac was a 2011 Mac Pro and it served me very well. I never thought I'd switch to PC, ever.
The interface of Apple is just way more friendly than PC. I get it, believe me. Windows deifinitely took some getting used to.

I work in film and have specialized in the planning and pre-visualisation of stage builds.
My clients want drawings quickly and often I output many views to communicate the spaces we are developing.

My renders are decent, but often it isn't the point to create the most realistic, but rather very quick renderings so a fast machine is a must for me.

Here a couple of renders from Lyle-Lyle Crocodile which I worked on to illustrate the point:

It's as I imagined!
These renders are made with a single light source, cheap maps and repetitive textures: You don't need a fast car!
Put it on the market: you can make a lot of money by competing with Microsoft and Apple.
To this day, discussing the hardware differences of the two operating systems is ridiculous...they don't exist.
More correct to say: strangely Thea Render is not optimized well for Mac M1, she is not optimized for SketchUp 2023 etc.. this is not professional!
In fact, I switched to the Enscape software, which works in Real Time faster, more intuitive, more professional.
Think about being creative, forget the competition!

Not sure what your problem is @gogiannigo if you get great results with Enscape, more power to you.

I am sure the Thea team is working hard to make a solid integration with apple machines.
It's always been like that with most applications for apple users, that's why I switched.
It's very hard for developers to keep up with two platforms, especially with limited resources.

I'm not saying apple machines are bad, they are just more expensive in comparison and as you point out here, apple is not the
main platform used, it is Windows for better or worse.

All I'm saying is you could consider using a PC and wouldn't need to have that problem and save some money while you're at it.

I know my renders are not the most realistic, they are not for editorial use they are helping my clients communicate ideas.

Thea helps me pump them out quickly, reliably and without crashes!

I get great results with Thea, even if you don't think so

I'm sorry to not have been able to add something constructive to the thread and should have stayed on topic.

I was not of ill intent in my comment.

It was naive to think I could sway anyone's position by sharing my results and I regret it now.

Sincere apologies,

Swissmountain
