THEA Materials not updating'?

Hi there, the Material previews in the Materials tab for THEA do not update and remain blacked out. Occasionally, the materials will start to slowly update themselves, and oftentimes only partially. With a complex model with many materials, it can be a pain to use. Is this a know bug and can this be replicated? Any others seeing the same thing? I recently upgraded to a new workstation with clean install and it's exactly the same. Auto Update Preview and Update All Previews don't seem to work at all.

Hello acrighton, the material previews are updated on idle time by design so that they don't take up resources while you are doing work.
I will test this out to see if there is any unexpected behavior.

Thanks Xristos, some additional input... occasionally, when I update/edit a material, it will trigger some, but not all, of the other materials to update, and some to only partially update, see attached. Even when workstation is idle, no material updates happen. It can sit in this state forever and not update.

Here it's working fine. I let the Thea render is current Render, then add many Thea materials it's Auto updated.
Rhino 7 SR24 - Thea Render v3.5.176.1973


Did you try with change the Type of viewer materials [Grid,List] to see if the view working?



Could you please share that file to see what's the problem?

Hi foreigner, this issue is evident on every model, not just the one from the screenshots I attached earlier. Attached image shows another model with exactly the same problem. This problem has been around for a while, but even after a new workstation with clean install of Windows+Rhino+Thea, it's still here. The image here with the mostly blacked out materials has been open (and idle) for the last 3 hours and hasn't updated the material previews. The two materials that do show up, only updated after I opened them and then closed them, and after a moment or two the preview was updated.

Changing material view between grid/list/tree makes no difference.

Hello acrighton please check to see if version 3.5.179.1974 works any better for you. The material preview generation has been improved to use all available cores.

Hi Xristos, I just installed latest update and found that 1st file I opened would not update at all after being idle for some 20 minutes. I did however, change the size of the preview icons to medium from large and all previews updated. I then changed back to large icons and they all updated without delay. I then opened up another model and tried changing preview size, but it did not update like the earlier file. File size, complexity or qty of materials doesn't see to make any difference.
