Dear friends,

many of you have already experienced the raw power of Presto. It was and is our intention to deliver an engine that its raw performance is simply beyond comparison. For next edition v1.3, we are going one step further by making the engine also quite more sophisticated in terms of algorithmic design. These changes are mostly related to improving the sampling part of Presto leading to even faster convergence to a great number of scenes, while adding small to negligible computational overhead. This means that Presto maintains its fast interactivity but also delivers final renders sooner, at least in many scene types.

For edition v1.3, we implemented five (5) such algorithmic enhancements, that we quickly present below. All comparison renders made between v1.2 and v1.3 versions for the same running time.

1. Sampling improvement for scenes with area lights.

We are using again MrWip scene (what a wonderful test scene!) to compare how v1.3 performs versus v1.2.

2. Sampling improvement for scenes with image based lighting (IBL).

We are using the advanced material simulation scene, where IBL is used.

3. Sampling improvement for Presto SSS.

Not only Presto runs now SSS but a new sampling approach makes SSS sampling much more robust. In fact, this improved sampling is currently available only with Presto and will be implemented in the unbiased engines as well.

4. Sampling improvement in the presence of many light sources.

We used the oblivion scene that contains many many light sources along with the sun-sky.
Note, that this improvement requires some start up work and thus is available only in darkroom render (not interactive mode).

5. Antialiasing filter.

Filtering is available in v1.3 improving the overall render antialiasing.

Extraordinary news! Thanks for all the effort in providing us a first class rendering engine!

This SSS mat is impressive...very convincing ! Thanks for your hard work ! Is this update will be free of charge for existing user ? I bought Thea during beta phase and from this time I did not pay anything more...I'm not complaining but you made such work and improvements since beta !

I hope that your user base growed enough to make you feel confortable with this !!

A big thanks again and again.

As far as I'm aware updates remain free until version 2x, so if the current trend remains true at 2 massive revisions a year there is still awhile to go, I guess when Presto is bullet proof revisions may come faster
