I like this one but the trunk is still too smooth.

It works for most situations, but not all as imho this always makes a CG tree look a bit plastic and therefore will require post pro or pushing the tree off image.

I just did a google search and found this. It's different as in older, but has many kinds of variations in a single image.

you are right , the picture you posted is a same tree but i found these trees in mostly two shape , one is broad and other is long , the picture you posted is of broad type . i also clicked picture of trunk of both type attached below ,
