Before you proceed reading or downloading RV345, please bear in mind
that this is a development version. We already found some things that
need to be fixed and some to be changed.
We are going to change the extensions of importing/exporting material
packages not to be confused with scenes. Also, the texture editor will
change to popup with right click context menu on texture buttons.
Also, for 3dsMax customers, the plugin won't work with RV345 as it
needs a new update.
For all these reasons, and not to confuse users, we are reverting
temporarily to our previous revision 341. An update with some fixes
over 345 will follow by next Wednesday.
We apologize for the inconvenience - if you have already installed 345,
that's not a problem, you can continue using it.

Dear friends,

this is the first update after our open beta launch. Still of course in beta ;)
Links to the installers can be found in our sticky latest revision thread:
http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtop ... =61&t=1849

At this point, we didn't put time in fixing reported bugs. But rather tried
to add some small features and functionality.

For example, we added the shadow caster/receiver model flags that work
in biased mode. Click on a model in the scene view or GL viewport, and you
will see the new flags in the Content properties panel.

Another addition is support for adding primitives from the GL viewport. But
we didn't want to go too far with this from the GL viewport, so we restricted
it to just one primitive; infinite plane. You will find the related command in
Insert pull down menu.

We also added clay render mode in biased rendering. You can find the enable
setting in Biased RT panel. There's also a quick preset that you can use
from the render dialog.

One particular issue with physical sky, was that sun was not being updated
properly (or re-updated) after importing some XML files or changing date/time.
To stay on the safe side, sun is now being regenerated just before
rendering! To prevent this (if you want to have a manual change over sun
position / soft shadow radius), you will need to uncheck the Update Sun
flag in the Physical Sky panel.

Also, there is a batch material preview rendering now. Just right click on the
scene view, the popup menu appears then Materials > Build Missing/All Previews.

We have made some minor changes in material editor key bindings:
Left Click on texture button brings up the texture editor.
Right Click on texture button brings up a small context menu (Copy/Paste/Delete).
Left Click on texture image placeholder will always browse now for a new bitmap.

Also, there is a small improvement in Clip & Displacement mapping and Emitter workflow.
There are a lot of people asking for an automation regarding clip maps, i.e. when
opening an image for the diffuse component that contains an alpha channel to be
directly assigned to the clip map. While in small scale, this seems natural, such an
automaton is actually risky when dealing with so many components/textures/etc.
of Thea's material system. There should be at least some "user confirmation" there.
So, the workaround is the following: say that you open a png image for diffuse component.
After doing so, drag & drop this image to Clipping button (the leaf). Thea will assign
the alpha channel directly to the clip map & enable it. This functionality will be
also added in the right click context menu shortly.

With this revision, we wanted to add material packaging so that users can share
materials easily. This is now possible with a right click context menu in Thea browser.
You select the materials you went (left click or control+left click) and then right
click and Export. You will be asked for a filename (a .pack.thea file). This file
contains your materials along with the associated bitmaps (if any). You can also
import similarly materials that have been created by others (a logical way is
to right click in a browser, create a folder with New Folder command and then
go inside the folder and Import a material pack).

Finally, there is an important fix for displacement mapping. Some users may have seen
the bug already; it happens when you scale an object. Then, the displacement height
loses its climax. Now, this is fixed, so when you have a displacement of 2cm height,
this will stay so in absolute metric, even if you scale the object.

There's quite some work ahead of us and we will be possibly alternating revisions of
bug fixes with revisions of functionality/feature enhancements. After RV345 is
tested for 1-2 days, website links will be also updated.

best wishes

Mate as the Latest Version thread is dated from the original release is there any chance to put a date on release of concurrent versions, this way one doesn't need to check the version number in app!

Thanks mate!

Actually this scheme works well, it's just that I removed RV345 because of some
functionality issues that I wanted to change back (and not confuse further users).

Latest revision thread is always the latest that one can grab. Separate threads
discuss specific revisions in more detail.
